Youth Goat Camps: Premier Showmanship Education for Youth
The Youth Goat Camps at Goat Expo offer an exceptional educational experience designed to help young exhibitors develop confidence, skill, and industry knowledge under the guidance of leading goat professionals. These camps focus on advanced showmanship, animal selection, preparation, and presentation, providing youth with the tools needed for success both in and beyond the show ring.
Each camp is intentionally limited to 25 participants, for a total of 75 youth, ensuring individualized instruction and meaningful interaction with instructors. This small-group format allows campers to ask questions, receive personalized feedback, and actively participate in every aspect of the learning process. Instructors are experienced educators who work closely with youth at all skill levels to help them improve and grow.
Campers engage in a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on arena practice, with a progressive schedule that emphasizes understanding the why behind each skill. Youth also participate in husbandry-focused classes that reinforce proper animal care, responsibility, and ethical livestock practices.
Evening activities and group games encourage campers to connect with one another, fostering friendships and long-term relationships within the goat industry. The camp experience culminates in a Final Showmanship Competition, with divisions beginning with Senior exhibitors, followed by Intermediate and Junior. Buckles and banners are awarded.
The first evening of camp includes a Pizza Party with an activity, designed to reinforce goat knowledge in a fun, interactive setting.
In addition to the camps, Goat Expo offers a Skill-A-Thon, open to all youth, whether or not they are enrolled in a Youth Goat Camp. The Skill-A-Thon allows participants to demonstrate knowledge in areas such as goat care, anatomy, and management. Youth not enrolled in camp may participate for an additional entry fee.
As part of Goat Expo’s commitment to youth education and agriculture, a donation is made in each camper’s name to the Missouri State Fair Foundation. This contribution highlights the importance of service, stewardship, and giving back to the agricultural community.
